Last night when we were done answering the door, I wrote this little poem to put out on the porch with the candy. I may use it again next year.

I'm Not Sure Why...
I have been so excited for Christmas this year. I know, Halloween is tomorrow, but I can't help it. Maybe it is the change of season that threw me off, because I have felt like baking ever since the weather turned. Maybe it is the urge to bake that makes me feel like I am ready for Christmas to come. So what did I do last week with left over egg whites from another baking incident? I got out last years leftover candy canes and made peppermint meringues. They were pretty yummy!
Sometimes It's the Little Things
Halfway into my preparations for dinner last night, I realized that I was missing a key ingredient, the teriyaki sauce. Not having time and not wanting to pack up the kids for a mad dash to the grocery store, I decided to see if I could find a recipe online for which I had all of the ingredients. Success! We had yummy homemade teriyaki sauce! I also decided to try to make sweet and sour sauce while I was at it. While I'd still rather make my mom's sweet and sour meatball recipe, this sauce turned out to be tasty. It will be perfect dipping the rest of the Costco sized bag of chicken nuggets in our freezer.
The recipes are here {teriyaki} and here {sweet and sour}.
Sometimes it is the little successes that make my day.

Smoothie
Frozen pink lemonade concentrate, frozen strawberries, ice, and water = my new favorite smoothie recipe.
Priorities
At my previous place of employment, a Civil Engineering/Construction Claims firm, there was a bulletin board with all of the state and federal "notices" posted. Tucked here and there between the serious workplace information were comic strips and other witty workplace jokes. One of the witty pieces that I liked was a small flow chart that referred to construction projects. The chart consisted of three circles all connected together with lines that met in the center. In once circle it said "cheap", in another it said "fast", and in the last circle it said "quality". Below the chart read "You can have any two, but not all three." And it is true. If you wanted something built fast and quality, you'd have to pay top dollar, and so forth. In my new place of work, full-time stay-at-home-mom {dream job!}, I've decided that the flow chart circles would read "take care of your children", "take care of your home", and "take care of yourself". "You can do any two, but not all three." There never seem to be enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I'd like to, and it has intensified with a newborn in our home, but I couldn't be happier with my "new" job.
